Ashadi Ekadashi

Aashadi Ekadashi is a revered day of Vaishnava Hindus and a prominent festival of the Warkari community, who consider lord Vitthal as their ultimate deity. To make children aware of our great tradition Yashwantrao Chavan English Medium School (CBSE) celebrated the ‘Palkhi Celebration Event’ and ‘Aashadi Ekadashi’ with a lot of enthusiasm, zest, and fervor on 28th June 2023. The boys were dressed up as Warkaris carrying cymbals, and the girls were in colorful traditional nine-yard saree carrying tulsi on their heads. Some students were also dressed up as Vitthal and Rukhmini. The Palkhi was decorated with fresh, colorful flowers and paper ornaments.

The program started with Palkhi puja and aarti. Our Principal did the puja Madam Dr. Laxmi Arun. This was followed by the traditional ‘Dindi’ procession with learners marching playing cymbals, performing lezim, dance, and reciting shlokas and Abhang.

As a part of the celebration, students were informed about the importance of ‘Aashadi Ekadashi’ and ‘Palkhi Sohala’. All the teaching and non-teaching staff sang the aarti and bhajans along with the students. Our Principal Madam encouraged our students to follow the teaching of our great Saints with her inspirational speech.

The entire school campus reverberated with the chanting of ‘Vitthal Vitthal Jai Hari Vitthal’. The celebration encouraged the students to participate in the rich cultural traditions of our country and to know more about our heritage.
