The founder member of a right-wing ethnocentric Marathi party called the Shiv Sena, Bal Thackeray was considered a cult figure in Maharashtra during his lifetime. Bal Keshav Thackeray born on 23 January 1926 also known as Balasaheb Thackeray, was an Indian politician who founded the Shiv Sena, pro-Marathi and Hindu nationalist party active mainly in the state of Maharashtra.
